Blue Canoe Program

Beginning in mid-June until the end of August each year, our Blue Canoe team travels along the shores of lakes within the Municipality of Trent Lakes and the Township of Scugog in Durham Region.  Equipped with a canoe and knowledge about lake health and shoreline restoration techniques, they travel dock-to-dock answering questions about shorelines, lakes, and actions that landowners can take to help improve the health of their lake.

Some of the topics that our Blue Canoe team can advise landowners on include:

  • Preventing shoreline erosion
  • Managing aquatic plants
  • Minimizing blue-green algae outbreaks
  • Septic system maintenance
  • Deterring Canada Geese
  • Reducing E.coli close to shore

Landowners can also host a 'Dock Talk', where the team can meet with a group of cottage road neighbours and discuss the health of their lake, and some best management practices for lake property stewardship.

The team is happy to drop by at a time that is more convenient for you. Contact them today to book an appointment:
