December 6, 2018 – A full day of activities is planned for Saturday, December 8, with the first ever Christmas at Ken Reid family event. The day-long festivities at Ken Reid Conservation Area will feature free activities for the whole family.
“This event is about bringing people together, bringing the community together, and celebrating the holidays and celebrating nature,” explained Mark Majchrowski, CAO of Kawartha Conservation. “Our staff have worked extremely hard to put together an event that we are excited about and we’re sure visitors will love.”
Between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. there will be singing and entertainment, indoor and outdoor crafts for children and adults, guided interpretive nature hikes, animal displays and education, including a Bobcat, as well as Indigenous drumming and storytelling, horse drawn wagon rides, free hot chocolate and coffee and, of course, a visit from Santa Claus.
“We are thrilled to be able to host and offer this type of community event for residents, visitors and families,” said Kristie Virgoe, Director of Stewardship and Conservation Lands. “We’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone to Ken Reid and hope they enjoy the activities, the scenery and the opportunity spend time with family and friends in a beautiful conservation area.”
The gates to Ken Reid Conservation Area will be closed at 3 p.m. Friday to allow staff, and Santa’s helpers to put the final touches on the Christmas at Ken Reid events, with gates reopening Saturday morning.
Christmas at Ken Reid will begin at 10 a.m. and run throughout the day ending at 4:30 p.m.
