AUGUST 19, 2019 – Kawartha Conservation and the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes are joining forces to bring pet lovers together for the Dog Days of Summer event at Ken Reid Conservation Area on Thursday, August 29.
From 5p.m. to 7 p.m. Humane Society staff will be on hand with a number of cats available for adoption as well as any dogs available for adoption, the day of the event.
Fortunately, the shelter’s dogs are usually quick to find forever homes in our community; cats tend to stay in the shelter much longer.
“We really wanted to work with the Humane Society to invite people to come to Ken Reid, enjoy the dog park, or perhaps come and visit some of the cats available for adoption in our education center, and perhaps see if there was a connection,” said Emma Turner, Conservations Lands Technician.
The Howlers Corner Off-Leash Dog Park at Ken Reid is a popular destination for local dog owners and partnering with the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes is a great way to bring greater exposure to the need for adoptive families.
“This is meant to be a fun event for the entire family,” said Ms. Turner. “We are inviting all dog park users and dog owners to come out and enjoy the off-leash dog park. If you’re more of a cat person, stop by and see some of the many cats the Humane Society has for adoption and see if one tugs at your heart strings.”
The Dog Days of Summer will be held from 5pm to 7 pm on Thursday, August 29.
Join us to see the animals that are available for adoption. Feel free to bring your dog or come and meet a new furry friend.
“We’re excited to be able to partner with the Humane Society and looking forward to what we know will be a really fun event for all of our visitors,” said Ms. Turner.
