Venue: Ken Reid Conservation Area
Have you been interested in birding? Or wondered what types of birds make their permanent and temporary home in the Kawartha Region? Join Kawartha Conservation’s Rob Stavinga for an educational and fun Introduction to Birding on Saturday, May 4 at Ken Reid Conservation Area.
Introduction to Birding will run from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and participants are encouraged to dress for the weather as the event will be held rain or shine.
Participants are encouraged to bring a pair of binoculars if they have them, as well as wearing good footwear and appropriate clothing.
Both the eBird and Merlin apps are available for free on both Android and iPhone, and participants who are interested are asked to download the apps prior to the May 4 Introduction to Birding.
Cost for the event is $10 + HST for adults. Children 12 and under are free.
Adding to the day’s events, Saturday, May 4 is also Global Big Day. Last May, more than 30,000 people took to fields and forests around the world, noting more than 7,000 species in a single day - Global Big Day. On May 4, birding’s biggest day is coming back. Wherever you are in the world, you can be a part of birding’s next world record, by using the eBird app to log and record bird sightings.
