To address urban stormwater runoff, the Township of Scugog and the Region of Durham funded Kawartha Conservation to initiate the Port Perry Urban Drainage Study in the spring of 2008. The purpose of the study was to determine drainage areas in the urban area, investigate the level of stormwater control in each sewershed and determine high priority areas for retrofit opportunities. The study also involved an inventory of existing stormwater management facilities, culverts, and catch basins as part of delineating the storm sewer network. The Port Perry Stormwater Management Plan began in June 2009 as a follow up to the Urban Drainage Study, conducted in accordance with the Schedule B guidelines of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA).
