Great community turnout for Shoreline Cleanup
KAWARTHA LAKES - A national shoreline cleanup campaign is underway in the City of Kawartha Lakes and local support has been impressive.
Kawartha Conservation has registered four local parks in the 2007 TD Canada Trust Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup campaign , a drive to collect litter from shorelines and surrounding areas.
This past weekend over thirty people, many of them Fleming College students, turned out to gather garbage from the shores of the Scugog River at Rainbow Bridge, Riverview and Nayoro parks in Lindsay. The fourth and final cleanup will take place this Saturday, September 22 at Coboconk Lion's Park in Coboconk, beginning at 10:00am.
“The turn out to the Lindsay cleanup was terrific, and we're hoping for the same enthusiasm at the Coboconk Lion ' s Park this weekend,” says Sasha Lambrinos, Kawartha Conservation Stewardship Coordinator. “The Friends of Kawartha Conservation are partnering with us on this site, and we're inviting anyone with an int erest in the environment to come out and participate .”
Volunteers are asked to meet in the parking lot at 10:00am. Bags and gloves will be provided, as well as a pizza lunch following the collection. Participants are invited to stay on after lunch to plant some wildflowers and shrubs along the shoreline.
