Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers make it happen!
Volunteers are an important part of our conservation team, contributing to the management, protection and enhancement of our environment. From water testing and fundraising, to planting shrubs, volunteers make a difference in the Kawartha watershed! Below are just a few of the ways volunteers are making a contribution.
Kawartha Water Watch
Kawartha Water Watch is a water monitoring program organized by Kawartha Conservation that partners with cottage associations and other environmental groups to sample lakes and streams within our watershed. Partners provide seed money and pay for testing supplies, while Kawartha Conservation provides the analysis, reporting and administration aspects of the program.
During the summer months volunteers throughout the watershed perform monthly testing using kits provided by Kawartha Conservation. Volunteers then send their water samples in to us for testing. The information that is compiled through this and other monitoring programs is compiled into a reports which are distributed to volunteers and agencies involved in managing water resources.

Kawartha Weather Watchers
Kawartha Weather Watchers record temperature and precipitation at the same locations once every day. The ideal time for this is 8:00 am, although there is some flexibility. This group has been recording weather data for over ten years. This Information is compiled in a database that reflects local weather patterns, and is used in subwatershed studies.
