Budget and Financial Statements

The Board of Directors approves the budget on an annual basis. This is usually done at the second meeting of the year in February, but on occasion this process may lead into March. They are also responsible for approving the audited financial statements on an annual basis.

 

 

Revenue sources

Kawartha Conservation's revenue comes from different sources that all contribute to our operations. Explore our main sources of funding.

Municipalities pay for 50-55% of our operating costs and special projects. Operating costs are paid by all municipalities. Special projects are determined on a year to year basis. These projects are requested by an individual municipality and funded by them. Our Conservation Authority has a watershed area of 2,563kms that we are responsible for. This area spans six municipal boundaries that include the:

Our Board of Directors is represented by individuals from each of the member municipalities. The municipalities levy (payment) amount is based on apportionments. The apportionments are based on Provincial Legislation that is in the Conservation Authorities Act

Income from fees and donations accounts for 25-30% of total revenue. These items may include:

Grants generate between 10-15% of our revenues. Some of these grants include:

Expenditure are focused on programs and projects that align with our strategic plan that include:

  • Protecting our lakes and water resources
  • Partnering with agricultural, shoreline and urban communities to advance stewardship
  • Developing watershed science
  • Educating and sharing
  • Conserving our natural heritage
  • Improving the health, safety and vitality of our communities

Audited financial statements

Audited financial statements have our revenues and expenditures, statement of cash flow and balance sheet for the period of January 1st to December 31st of a given year. Audited statements are independently reviewed and tested by licensed auditors to ensure faithful and accurate representation of the financial position of the organization.
