2022 Native Plant Sale now open for a limited time

AUGUST 15, 2022 - Kawartha Conservation’s 2022 Native Plant Sale has opened for a limited time, offering a wide selection of low-cost native plant species while supplies last. With an expanded list of fall species and new kits available, this is the perfect opportunity for anybody to create, enhance or diversify their garden or shoreline before winter weather arrives.

Local landowners and gardening enthusiasts can choose from three options; the ‘Sun Lovers’ kit, the ‘Understory Oasis’ kit, and the ‘Shoreline Stabilizers’ kit, each of which are suited to different growing conditions and include 15 native plants.

“Plants included in the sale are perennials, meaning that by planting them in the late summer and fall, you’re preparing them to grow stronger and larger next spring,” explained Carolyn Snider, Administrative Support, Conservation Programs. “Whether you’re looking to slow down erosion with the ‘Shoreline Stabilizers’ kit, enhance shaded areas with the ‘Understory Oasis’ kit, or support pollinators with the ‘Sun Lovers’ kit, there are tons of vibrant options to suit your gardening needs.”

Species in this years sale include blue flag iris, bottle gentian, large-leaved aster, zigzag goldenrod, and many more.

“Planting native species is a simple way to support wildlife and create natural beauty on your property while making your garden easier to take care of,” said Snider. “As native plants grow naturally in our region, they have learned to thrive in local soil and weather conditions, meaning they require less maintenance than non-native plants.”

Plants can be ordered and purchased through the online order form and will be available for pickup at Ken Reid Conservation Area on Friday, September, 9, 2022 between 10am and 2pm.

Due to high demand, quantities are limited, and the sale will be on a first come first serve basis. Place your order today to take advantage of this popular fall sale.
