2025 Water Fund launches to support environmental projects
JANUARY 28, 2025 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kawartha Conservation is excited to announce the launch of the 2025 Water Fund, offering funding, knowledge, and technical support to landowners and not-for-profit community organizations located within the Kawartha Conservation watershed. This includes parts of the City of Kawartha Lakes, Durham Region, and the Township of Scugog.
Since 2007, the Water Fund has provided over $770,000 in funding for landowner-led environmental projects, and since 2019, an additional $80,000 has been awarded to community initiatives through the Kawartha Community Water Fund. These programs continue to empower local landowners and organizations to make meaningful contributions to water quality, ecosystem health, and the region’s environmental sustainability.
Eligible projects include, but are not limited to, waterfront naturalization, tree planting, agricultural Best Management Practices, erosion control, septic upgrades, and well decommissioning. All projects must demonstrate the potential to positively impact water quality or ecosystem health.
“The Water Fund is a great opportunity for landowners and community groups to access funding to improve their property or project area,” said Danielle Marcoux-Hunter, Landowner and Community Specialist at Kawartha Conservation. “We’re creating a variety of environmental projects that protect and enhance the health of our watershed for everyone to enjoy.”
Projects funded through the Water Fund have lasting impacts, supporting cleaner water, healthier habitats, and a greener future.
“Since 2007, this program has supported 490 projects, demonstrating the incredible impact that individuals and organizations can have when they take action,” added Marcoux-Hunter. “We encourage everyone with a project idea to reach out, explore eligibility, and take advantage of this valuable funding opportunity.”
Applications are now open, and funding is limited. Landowners and organizations interested in applying are encouraged to review the program guidelines and schedule a consultation with Kawartha Conservation staff to ensure their application is complete.
