Christmas at Ken Reid cancelled for 2020
November 6, 2020 – Following months of challenges and uncertainty as a result of Covid-19, Kawartha Conservation staff have made the difficult, but necessary, decision to cancel Christmas at Ken Reid.
“On one hand this has not been an easy decision,” explained Kristie Virgoe, Director, Stewardship and Conservation Lands. “We know how important this event is to our community, and how much families enjoy getting to celebrate the holiday season with us here at Ken Reid Conservation Area.
“On the other hand,” Ms. Virgoe continued, “there is nothing more important than the health and safety of our community, and we felt cancelling was the most responsible and appropriate option for 2020.”
Christmas at Ken Reid has become a much-anticipated holiday favourite in the region. In 2019, more than 1,000 people attended the free day-long event, which includes horse drawn wagon rides, Christmas scavenger hunt, kids craft corner, Christmas story walks, visits with Santa Claus, musical entertainment and much more.
“All of our staff look forward to Christmas at Ken Reid,” said Kawartha Conservation CAO, Mark Majchrowski. “It has become a really wonderful event where we see so many families, children, parents and grandparents come together and celebrate the season, celebrate the outdoors, and the smiles really say everything.”
Kawartha Conservation staff are looking forward to planning for the return of Christmas at Ken Reid in 2021.
“This is an opportunity for us to re-imagine Christmas at Ken Reid,” said Ms. Virgoe. “To develop community and business partnerships and plan for a really wonderful event for families in our communities and visitors to Kawartha Lakes next year.”
