Community invited to tree planting event in Port Perry on Saturday, September 24
SEPTEMBER 15, 2022 – Kawartha Conservation is inviting the public to a community tree planting event on Saturday, September 24 at the Carolyn Best Memorial Diamonds in Port Perry. Kicking off at 10am, participants will work together and with Kawartha Conservation staff to plant native trees and shrubs throughout the park, helping to make a positive contribution to the local environment.
Participants are welcome to stay for as long or as little as they are able, with the event concluding once the area has been thoroughly planted – to a grand total of 300 trees and 100 shrubs. Refreshments will be available, and shovels, gloves, and other planting equipment will be provided by Kawartha Conservation at the event.
“Every tree counts,” said Colleen Cathcart, Kawartha Conservation’s Forestry and Landowner Services Technician. “This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to make a positive impact in their community, earn volunteer hours, or contribute to increased forest cover and water quality in the Durham Region.”
All ages are welcome, and no previous tree planting experience is required to participate, however, those looking to attend must register on the event page.
“We encourage you to invite family, friends and colleagues to join us for the Port Perry Community Tree Planting Day,” said Cathcart. “Many hands make light work, so no matter if you’ve never planted a tree before or have been doing it your whole life, your participation will make a difference that will be seen and felt for generations.”
This event is supported by the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and the Township of Scugog.
Join your community and help contribute to healthier forests in Port Perry on Saturday, September 24. Learn more and register for the event at kawarthaconservation.com/PortPerryTrees or contact Colleen Cathcart by email or by phone at 705-328-2271 ext. 249.
