Explore Nature Challenge celebrates community and supports local conservation efforts

SEPTEMBER 2, 2022 – The Kawartha Conservation Foundation’s Explore Nature Challenge kicked off earlier this summer to a warm response from community members, local businesses, and nature enthusiasts alike. The challenge, running until Thanksgiving weekend, encourages participants, families, and friends to explore the trails of local conservation areas as part of a fundraising initiative to support capital projects at Ken Reid Conservation Area and beyond.

“The Explore Nature Challenge is a fantastic initiative that was made by the community, for the community,” said Mark Majchrowski, CAO of Kawartha Conservation. “Led by volunteers through the Kawartha Conservation Foundation, supported by local sponsors, and made possible by participants from all over the region, the Explore Nature Challenge really captures what our community is all about.”

Open to all ages and abilities, those that register and complete the challenge will have trees planted on their behalf at one of Kawartha Conservation’s properties, as well as receive a commemorative medal for their efforts. All proceeds from the event will support the proposed new accessible playground structure and Turtle Nesting Box project at Ken Reid Conservation Area.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for anybody to make a positive impact on the environment and their community, simply by walking along the trails of any or all of Kawartha Conservation’s five conservation areas,” said Kawartha Conservation Foundation Chair Pat Warren. “With over 30kms of trails available and endless sights to see, there’s never been a better time to get out and explore.”

The Explore Nature Challenge is supported through the generous sponsorship of local businesses, including MDM Developments, Cable Cable, PRI Engineering, Revel Realty Inc. and Trish Todd Real Estate, B Armstrong Contracting, and the Kawartha Home Hardware Group.
