Fall Native Plant Sale a perfect opportunity to enhance your garden or shoreline

KAWARTHA LAKES - Kawartha Conservation is excited to announce the opening of its 2024 Fall Native Plant Sale, running from August 8 to September 3. This limited-time sale offers a diverse selection of low-cost native plant species, perfect for local landowners and gardening enthusiasts looking to enhance their gardens or shorelines before the winter weather arrives.

This year's sale features an expanded list of fall species and plant kits tailored to different growing conditions. Some of the native species available this year include:

  • Pearly everlasting (Anaphalis margaritacea)
  • Canada anemone (Anemone canadensis)
  • Butterfly milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa)
  • Purple love grass (Eragrostis spectabilis)
  • Dense blazing star (Liatris spicata)
  • White trillium (Trillium grandiflorum)

“Our native plant sale is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in supporting local wildlife and creating a beautiful, low-maintenance garden,” said Ola Pasternak, Landowner and Community Support at Kawartha Conservation. “By planting perennials in late summer and fall, you’re setting the stage for them to grow stronger and larger next spring.”

Customers can choose from five specially curated plant kits:

  • Pollinator Friendly Kit: Ideal for sunny areas and designed to support pollinators.
  • Understory Oasis Kit: Perfect for shaded areas, enhancing the understory of your garden.
  • Shoreline Stabilizers Kit: Suited for stabilizing and beautifying shorelines to help prevent erosion.
  • Spring Bloomer Kit: Ideal for those who love those early spring blooms.
  • Rain Garden Kit: Contains species that grow well in wetter soil, perfect for a rain garden.

“Planting native species is a simple way to support wildlife and create natural beauty on your property,” added Pasternak. “As native plants grow naturally in our region, they have adapted to local soil and weather conditions, often requiring less maintenance than non-native plants.”

Orders can be placed through the online order form on the Kawartha Conservation website. Plants will be available for pickup at the Ken Reid Conservation Area on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Due to high demand, quantities are limited, and the sale will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Don’t miss this opportunity to take advantage of our popular fall native plant sale.
