Funding now available for environmental projects in the Kawartha Conservation watershed
JANUARY 19, 2023 – If you are a property owner, non-profit organization, or community group in the Kawartha Conservation watershed, you may be eligible to receive funding and technical assistance in support of a future environmental project through the 2023 Water Fund.
Now open for applications, the 2023 Water Fund is a grant program that aims to support environmental projects in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Townships of Scugog and Brock, and the Municipality of Clarington that have the potential to positively impact water quality or ecosystem health.
“We want to connect people and organizations within our community to funding opportunities and personalized expertise that assists them in making a positive impact on the environment,” said Landowner and Community Support at Kawartha Conservation, Danielle Marcoux-Hunter. “Kawartha Conservation is able to subsidize eligible project costs by up to 50% through the program, supporting project types such as shoreline naturalization, farm stewardship, tree planting, well decommissions, and more.”
Demand for the Water Fund continues to grow and potential applicants are encouraged to review eligibility guidelines and apply soon to maximize their funding opportunities.
“Applicants must begin by reviewing the eligibility requirements for funding in relation to their proposed project,” explained Marcoux-Hunter. “Following that, those interested in applying must schedule a consultation with our staff, upon which we will provide advice and suggestions to help them complete their application for funding.”
Priority will be given to projects that are near surface water or hydrologically sensitive areas, have the potential to improve water quality, water quantity, or terrestrial habitat, as well as to landowners that have not previously received funding through this program.
The deadline to apply is Sunday, April 30, 2023.
