Kawartha Conservation is hosting free Forest Therapy events on Bell Let's Talk Day
JANUARY 20, 2022 – In support of mental health and Bell Let’s Talk Day, Kawartha Conservation will be hosting three free Forest Therapy experiences on Wednesday, January 25 at Ken Reid Conservation Area, with sessions running from 9:30 – 11am, 11:30am – 1pm, and 1:30 – 3pm.
Over the course of 90 minutes, participants will have the opportunity to slow down, explore the forest, and reflect on their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in an open and safe environment. A slow-moving activity centered around mindfulness, forest therapy is a relaxing, reflective, and sensory experience meant for everybody.
Those looking to participate in forest therapy must register for free online but are encouraged to donate to the Canadian Mental Health Association in support of mental health initiatives in the Kawartha Lakes and beyond.
“Forest therapy encourages you to explore the forest with your senses, using your powers of sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch to connect with nature and ground yourself in a unique way,” said certified Forest Therapy Guide and Director of Stewardship and Conservation Lands at Kawartha Conservation, Kristie Virgoe. “Channeling the energy of the forest is a powerful experience that helps you to clear your mind, enhance your well-being, and get in touch with the natural world.”
The Forest Therapy sessions will include a variety of thought exploration, slow movement, and group reflection activities.
“Working together, listening to those in need, and reaching out for support are all things that make for a healthy and strong community,” said Virgoe. “Register for forest therapy today to connect with nature, and yourself, in a new way.”
