Kawartha Conservation participates in Love Month by Kawartha Lakes Food Source

January 26, 2023 – Kawartha Conservation is excited to announce that it will be participating in the Love Month initiative organized by Kawartha Lakes Food Source. The event will feature a spectacular lighted trail at Ken Reid Conservation Area, located near the off-leash dog park. The Love Bright Trail will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the entire month of February.

"We are thrilled to be a part of this wonderful event and to help raise awareness and funds for those in need in our community," said Kristie Virgoe, Director of Stewardship and Conservation Lands at Kawartha Conservation. "We invite everyone to come and experience Ken Reid Conservation Area at night and to support a great cause while enjoying a unique and beautiful experience."

Love Month is a series of events organized by Kawartha Lakes Food Source to raise awareness and funds for food insecurity in the community. The initiative is designed to encourage the community to show love and kindness by supporting those in need and local businesses and organizations.

"The Love Bright Trail at Ken Reid Conservation Area is a perfect way to show our support for Love Month and to help raise funds, non-perishable food donations, and awareness for those most in need in our community," said Mark Majchrowski, CAO at Kawartha Conservation. “Being able to support our watershed communities through these types of unique partnerships is something we embrace as an organization; recognizing we’re all stronger when we work together.”

One dollar from each paid parking admission to Ken Reid Conservation Area between 5 and 9 p.m. for the month of February will go to support the Kawartha Lakes Food Source. As well, visitors are encouraged to drop off non-perishable food donations in the Administrative Centre during regular business hours Monday to Friday.

Monetary donations directly to the Kawartha Lakes Food Source can also be made by scanning the QR code at the entrance of the trail.

Kawartha Conservation encourages everyone to take part in this unique and meaningful event and to support those in need in our community.

“We had such an amazing response to the Illuminated Forest in December at Ken Reid Conservation Area,” said Virgoe. “We’re excited to be able to work with the Kawartha Lakes Food Source to create the Love Bright Trail and provide a new heart-warming experience for visitors.
