Kawartha Conservation seeks survey input on next Lake Scugog Environmental Management Plan (LSEMP)

May 10, 2024 - Kawartha Conservation will be at the Port Perry Farmer’s Market on Saturday, May 11 and May 25. We invite you to stop by our booth and share your thoughts on future research topics for the next Lake Scugog Environmental Management Plan.

This year, Kawartha Conservation is celebrating 20 years of water quality monitoring in Lake Scugog. The organization published the first Lake Scugog Environmental Management Plan (LSEMP) in 2010 to indicate areas of environmental improvement and the strategies to achieve them. In the past 14 years, Kawartha Conservation’s efforts have made meaningful impacts to improve water quality in Lake Scugog through recommendations, communication, education, environmental monitoring, and land stewardship initiatives.

"The insights from the previous plan allowed for the development of environmental science and stewardship initiatives,” Kawartha Conservation, Water Quality Specialist and project lead, Tanner Liang explained, “Kawartha Conservation is interested in what the public is concerned about in Lake Scugog. What kinds of changes have they noticed about the lake in their experience? Are there specific areas of lake health residents and visitors would like to see focused upon? These are the types of questions we want to incorporate into our future monitoring.”

With the completion of many recommendations and initiatives outlined in the 2010 plan, Kawartha Conservation is now seeking public feedback to help inform the areas of study that the public values most. The survey responses will be considered in the development of the next Lake Scugog Environmental Management Plan. Everyone who works, plays, or lives near and around Lake Scugog is encouraged to participate.

You can take the survey in-person at the farmer’s market, on May 11 or May 25, or through the online form.

The Port Perry Farmers Market is located at 81 Water St, Port Perry, ON L9L 1B8 and runs from 8am to 3pm.

The Lake Scugog Environmental Management Plan consultation survey will be available online until June 30th.
