'Mice Skating' marches into the Story Walk Trail this month at Ken Reid CA
FEBRUARY 1, 2024 – Beginning today and for the entire month of February, visitors to Ken Reid Conservation Area can read ‘Mice Skating’, the newly featured story along the Story Walk Trail.
Written by Annie Silvestro, ‘Mice Skating’ tells the charming story of a mouse named Lucy that loves everything about winter. The cold air, the crunch of snow beneath her paws, warm wool hats, and gliding across the ice are some of Lucy’s favourite things, but she only wishes her friends would join her for some winter fun.
“Lucy handed them their skates. They teetered onto the ice. They wobbled. They fell. But with practice, soon they were mice skating,” reads a page from the story.
“The Story Walk Trail at Ken Reid Conservation Area is made possible through the fantastic partnership we have with the Kawartha Lakes Public Library,” said Melissa Creasy-Alexander, Conservation Areas Technician. “The library provides us with pages to a new children’s story each month, which helps us create a dynamic learning environment for young readers while giving them the chance to explore nature with their family.”
The Story Walk can be found along the Pond Trail, located steps away from the main parking lot and adjacent to the off-leash dog park. Visitors can park at Ken Reid Conservation Area for $4 per day and are reminded to dress for the weather to ensure a comfortable experience.
