Native Plant Sale is now open for a limited time

APRIL 17, 2023 – Kawartha Conservation’s Native Plant Sale is now open, offering a wide selection of low-cost native plant species to local residents while supplies last. With more than 30 unique species and five unique planting kits available, this is a fantastic opportunity to get started on creating, diversifying, or enhancing your yard and gardens this year.

There are five garden options available, including ‘Pollinator Friendly’, ‘Understory Oasis’, and ‘Shoreline Stabilizers’ varieties, as well as two ‘Rain Garden’ options for large and small gardens. For extra-large gardens, multiple kits can be purchased.

“This years sale has more options than ever before to help you create healthy, vibrant, and natural gardens on your property,” said Carolyn Snider, Administrative Support Conservation Programs. “Each option is specially crafted to thrive in different conditions, so whether you’re looking to support pollinators, enhance shaded areas, filter runoff, or strengthen your shorelines, our Native Plant Sale has you covered.”

Species this year include sky blue aster, meadow sundrops, wild ginger, prairie smoke, and many more.

“Native plants thrive in local soil and weather conditions, meaning that they require less maintenance than non-native alternatives, while also contributing to stronger, healthier soil,” explained Snider “More recognizable by local wildlife, native plants also make it easier for bees, birds, and butterflies to support the local ecosystem through pollination.”

Plants can be ordered and paid for through an online order form and will be available for pickup at Ken Reid Conservation Area on Friday, May 26, 2023 between 10am and 2pm.

Due to high demand, quantities are limited and the sale will be on a first come, first served basis. Place your order today to take advantage of this wonderful spring sale.
