New Ken Reid Story Walk launches in time for Easter

MARCH 30 - Follow the tracks of ten woodland animals but . . . uh-oh . . . watch out for the skunk! Children learn the ways of forest animals to the rhythm of "Over in the Forest" as they leap like a squirrel, dunk like a raccoon, and pounce like a fox during the next Story Walk at Ken Reid Conservation Area.

For the latest walk, the Kawartha Lakes Public Library has chosen the popular ‘Over in the Forest’ by Marianne Berkes.

“This is a wonderful story that is both entertaining for children, but it is also very educational and helps them learn about animals and nature,” said Lyndsay Bowen, Library Specialist, Outreach and Community Engagement at the Kawartha Lakes Public Library.

The Story Walk, located along the Pond Loop Trail at Ken Reid Conservation Area has been a popular and welcome attraction at the Conservation Area, launching in December and continuing each month since.

“The Story Walk has been such a wonderful experience for families and young people,” said Kawartha Conservation Director, Stewardship and Conservation Lands, Kristie Virgoe. “This partnership with the Kawartha Lakes Public Library has been a really great win-win for all of us. The feedback from families; seeing the smiles on the kids faces; it’s a great way to spend some time outdoors, in nature, learning and just having fun.”

‘Over in the Forest’ will start on Thursday, April 1 and run throughout the month.
