'Not a Stick' Story Walk begins at Ken Reid Conservation Area

NOVEMBER 3, 2022 – Visitors to Ken Reid Conservation Area can now read ‘Not a Stick’, the newly featured story along the Story Walk Trail, for the entire month of November.

Written by Antoinette Portis, ‘Not a Stick’ is a fun and easy-to-read story that uses the power of imagination and creativity to take readers to new worlds. To most people, a stick laying on the ground is nothing more than a piece of wood, but with a little bit of creativity, it could be so much more. A stick could be a paintbrush used to create beautiful art, a sword to slay a mighty dragon, or anything else that you can think of. The possibilities are endless.

“Now what are you doing with that stick?” reads a page from the story. “I’m telling you, it’s not a stick!"

The Story Walk experience at Ken Reid Conservation Area is made possible through a partnership with the Kawartha Lakes Public Library, who provide a new story to be featured along the trail each month. A relaxing space for children to learn more about nature, experience the beauty of the forest, and spend quality time with loved ones, the Story Walk is the perfect venue for children to develop their reading skills while exploring the great outdoors.

“With over 10kms of trails available throughout the conservation area, there are so many sticks to find that will help you tell your story,” said Calli Burke, Conservation Areas Technician. “Ken Reid Conservation Area is a fantastic place to immerse yourself in nature and let your imagination run wild.”

The Story Walk is located along the Pond Loop Trail at Ken Reid Conservation Area, adjacent to the main parking lot and off-leash dog park. Visitors can park at Ken Reid Conservation Area for $4 per day.
