‘Over in the Forest’ returns to the Story Walk Trail at Ken Reid CA
JUNE 7, 2023 – Visitors to Ken Reid Conservation Area can once again read ‘Over in the Forest’ as it makes its second appearance along the Story Walk Trail for the month of June.
Written by Marianne Berkes, ‘Over in the Forest’ takes readers on a journey throughout the forest, exploring the lives of beavers, deer, turtles, birds, and other woodland animals. With colourful illustrations, clever rhyming schemes and simple counting exercises, readers can play a fun game of hide-and-seek with different animals on every single page.
“Over in the forest in the early morning dew, lived a hungry mother deer and her little fawns two,” reads a page from the story. “‘Graze,’ said the mother. ‘We graze’ said the two. So they grazed in the grass in the early morning dew.”
The Story Walk experience is made possible through a partnership with the Kawartha Lakes Public Library, who provide a new story to be featured along the trail each month. With an exciting lineup of new tales and fan favourites, visitors from near and far are invited to explore the Story Walk Trail this summer and let their imagination run wild.
“By combining the joy of reading with the excitement of exploring nature, we hope to inspire a sense of wonder and curiosity in children that motivates them to never stop learning,” said Rebecca Pomeroy, Conservation Lands Technician at Kawartha Conservation. “The Story Walk is the perfect place to connect with nature, spend time with family, and form memories that will last a lifetime.”
The Story Walk is located along the Pond Trail at Ken Reid Conservation Area, adjacent to the main parking lot and off-leash dog park. Visitors can park at Ken Reid Conservation Area for $4 per day and are reminded to bring a hat, sunscreen, and water for their outdoor adventure.
