Plant a tree, grow a legacy. 2024 Tree Seedling sale now open

NOVEMBER 22, 2023 – Kawartha Conservation is excited to announce the kickoff of the 2024 Tree Seedling Sale. This annual event provides landowners throughout the Kawartha Conservation watershed with a practical and affordable opportunity to enhance their properties while supporting the local environment.

Featuring 20,000 seedlings, including both evergreen and deciduous trees, along with shrubs and other species, this year's sale offers a valuable opportunity for environmentally conscious land stewards.

Colleen Cathcart, Forestry and Landowner Technician at Kawartha Conservation, encourages everyone to participate.

"Planting trees on your property is a simple way to contribute to our community's well-being,” said Cathcart. “It creates shade, purifies the air, and helps prevent flooding, fostering the overall health of our local environment."

This year's selection of 24 different species (10 deciduous/hardwood, 6 conifer and 8 shrub species) caters to diverse soil and weather conditions, ensuring that every landowner finds the right match for their planting needs.

"Whether you're considering providing habitat for plants and animals, fortifying your shoreline, or boosting property value, our tree sale has something for everyone," Cathcart added.

The 2024 sale includes classics like maple trees, spruce, oak, and dogwood, alongside newcomers such as hackberry, fragrant sumac, hazel and more.

For those eager to start spring planting, ordering tree seedlings is straightforward through our website, with the closing date set for March 10, 2024, at 4 pm. After placing your order, a confirmation email will guide you through the online payment process. Following that, your order will be processed, and you'll be contacted to schedule a convenient pickup time on Friday, April 26, 2024.

By participating in this year's sale, you're not just planting a tree – you're contributing to our goal of creating 22 new acres of forest cover in 2024.

"Order your seedlings today and join us in making a positive impact on the local environment for generations to come,” said Cathcart.
