'Plant the Tiny Seed' Story Walk begins at Ken Reid Conservation Area

AUGUST 3, 2022 – Available now and for the entire month of August, visitors to Ken Reid Conservation Area can read ‘Plant the Tiny Seed’, the newly featured story along the Story Walk Trail.

Written by Christie Matheson, ‘Plant the Tiny Seed’ gets readers involved in the magic of planting seeds and watching them grow into beautiful, colourful flowers on each page. Wiggle your fingers, clap your hands, and take a walk through the forest as you grow tiny little seeds into a magnificent garden by the end of the book.

“There’s magic in this tiny seed. Press it down and count to three,” reads a page from the story. “Tap the cloud and wish for rain, clap to bring the sun again.”

The Story Walk experience is made possible through a partnership with the Kawartha Lakes Public Library, who provide a new story to be displayed at Ken Reid Conservation Area each month. Nestled amongst a quiet, forested trail, the Story Walk provides a unique learning environment that allows children to explore the magic of nature surrounded by butterflies, birds, and more.

“We are incredibly happy to continue bringing pages to life along the Story Walk Trail with the help of the Kawartha Lakes Public Library,” said Calli Burke, Conservation Areas Technician. “The Story Walk is a fantastic way for children to practice their reading skills, learn about nature, and spend time with loved ones in a peaceful environment.”

The Story Walk is located along the Pond Loop Trail, just steps away from the main parking lot and off-leash dog park. Visitors can park at Ken Reid Conservation Area for $4 per day, and are reminded to bring sunscreen, bug spray, and water for their outdoor adventure.
