Still time to apply for 2021 Water Fund grants

AUGUST 20, 2021 – If you’re a landowner in Scugog Township or a community group in Scugog Township or City of Kawartha Lakes, there is still time to apply for grant funds through the Scugog Water Fund and Kawartha Water Fund for 2021 projects.

The funds are designed to provide financial support to property owners and community groups in undertaking projects that benefit watersheds in the respective communities and area.

Projects include a variety of areas including:

  • Agricultural stewardship projects
  • Erosion and loss of natural cover along shorelines and stream banks
  • Poorly functioning septic systems and wells
  • Rainwater/runoff management
  • Tree plantings
  • Wetland Restoration

Projects are evaluated for their potential to positively affect the health of the Lake Scugog watershed and lakes within the City of Kawartha Lakes. Acceptable expenses may include construction materials, licensed contractor and/or licensed technician fees, permit fees, design fees, native plant stock in conjunction with erosion control and runoff control projects, and other amounts as determined by the Water Fund Review Committee.

“The Scugog and Kawartha Water Fund is a great opportunity for individuals and community groups to receive between 50 and 100 per cent funding to support projects in their specific areas,” explained Landowner Services Technician Elizabeth Travers. “There has been a lot of interest in these programs this year, which has been great.

“We do have some additional funds remaining to assist the community with their projects and look forward to hearing and working with them to help make their projects a reality,” added Ms. Travers.

The deadline to apply for the remaining funds is September 15.
