APRIL 11, 2022 – Summer camps are returning to Ken Reid Conservation Area with an exciting new partnership with At Last Forest School.

“We are so excited to be opening a At Last Forest School at Ken Reid Conservation Area in Lindsay,” said owner and operator Carlin Val. “We have formalized our partnership with Kawartha Conservation to use the amazing space at Ken Reid Conservation Area. This location is a perfect spot to run our forest school programs and we are so excited to be bringing this opportunity to Kawartha Lakes.”

Carlin and his wife Debbie have a huge passion for the outdoors. After meeting in teachers college specializing in environmental Science and Experiential Education, they quickly realized that the conventional teaching industry was not for them.

They opened their first school in 2016, enrolling their own children so they could spend their days together with friends while also experiencing the joy and passion for the outdoors their parents have.

To their surprise, the forest school was a much needed alternative and it grew in popularity quickly. When they opened their doors in September 2016, their goal of 12 students very quickly became 50, and their one school has turned into eight more than five years later.

“This partnership really made sense for so many reasons,” explained Kristie Virgoe, Director of Stewardship and Conservation Lands. “Ken Reid is always a popular destination for families and children and the camps we’ve offered here in the past have always been popular and well received. Our hope and our goal for our education program has always been to provide youth with a wonderful outdoor, fully immersive experience.

“At Last Forest School provides that experience for camp participants and their families,” Virgoe continued. “Continuing to offer summer camp programs at Ken Reid Conservation Area supports both the local community and families of young children, while continuing our hope of providing the best possible experience for visitors.”
