The Illuminated Forest now open for 2024
LINDSAY, ONTARIO - The Illuminated Forest at Ken Reid Conservation Area is now open, offering a simple and enjoyable way to experience the outdoors this holiday season.
The trail, located on the Escarpment Trail at the front of Ken Reid Conservation Area, is lit with thousands of lights, creating a peaceful and festive evening walk for individuals, families, and friends. Open nightly from 5 to 9 p.m. until the January 3, 2025, the Illuminated Forest provides an opportunity to spend time outdoors and connect with nature during a busy holiday season.
Spending time in nature has been shown to improve mental well-being, reduce stress, and encourage physical activity. Events like The Illuminated Forest are designed to provide a safe and accessible way for people of all ages to enjoy these benefits.
“The Illuminated Forest is a great way for families and individuals to spend time outside and enjoy the holidays in a different way,” said Kristie Virgoe, Director of Stewardship and Conservation Lands at Kawartha Conservation. “It’s a simple, relaxing walk that showcases the beauty of nature and adds a touch of the holiday spirit.”
This year, the trail is approximately 1 kilometre long and easy to navigate. Dogs are welcome on a leash, making the event enjoyable for the whole family. Parking is available for $4, and admission is free. Staff will be on-site to assist visitors on December 12-15 and December 19-22. Parking is available in the main parking lot near the off-leash dog park, with additional overflow parking at the administrative building.
“Nature is at the heart of everything we do at Kawartha Conservation,” added Mark Majchrowski, Chief Administrative Officer of Kawartha Conservation. “The Illuminated Forest is a wonderful way to bring people together to enjoy the natural beauty of Ken Reid Conservation Area while celebrating the holiday season in a simple, meaningful way.”
