'This is Not My Hat' Story Walk begins at Ken Reid Conservation Area
MAY 5, 2023 – Available now and for the entire month of May, visitors to Ken Reid Conservation Area can read ‘This is Not My Hat’, the newly featured story along the Story Walk Trail.
Written by Jon Klassen, ‘This is Not My Hat’ is a tale about an untruthful fish that ends up in the possession of a stolen hat, as well as the consequences that follow. Weaving through dense seaweed forests, the thieving fish makes great effort to stay undetected, but eventually finds the owner of the hat hot on his trail.
“I know it’s wrong to steal a hat. I know it does not belong to me,” reads a page from the story. “But I am going to keep it, it was too small for him anyway. It fits me just right.”
The Story Walk experience is made possible through a partnership with the Kawartha Lakes Public Library, who provide a new story to be featured along the trail each month. As exciting stories unfold along the trail, the Story Walk provides a fantastic opportunity for children to let their imagination run wild while practicing their reading skills in a relaxing environment.
“For more than two years, the Story Walk has welcomed children and families from near and far to experience the joys of reading and the beauty of nature along the trails of Ken Reid,” said Rebecca Pomeroy, Conservation Areas Technician with Kawartha Conservation. “With majestic trees waving in the wind, flowers blooming, and new pages on every corner, the Story Walk Trail is a reminder to never stop learning, exploring, and spending time with loved ones.”
The Story Walk is located along the Pond Loop Trail, just steps away from the main parking lot and off-leash dog park. Visitors can park at Ken Reid Conservation Area for $4 per day, and are reminded to bring sunscreen, bug spray, and water for their outdoor adventure.
