'Too Many Carrots' Story Walk begins at Ken Reid Conservation Area
JUNE 6, 2022 – Available now and for the entire month of June, visitors to Ken Reid Conservation Area can now read ‘Too Many Carrots’, the newly featured story along the Story Walk Trail.
Written by Katy Hudson, ‘Too Many Carrots’ follows along the journeys of Rabbit and his friends as they learn valuable lessons about friendship, sharing, and caring for one another. As Rabbit’s burrow becomes too full of carrots, he looks to his friends for a place to sleep, each time bringing his beloved carrots along for the journey.
“Rabbit hauled his carrots up the tree as the branches wobbled and swayed … and SNAPPED!” reads a page from the story.
Surrounded by tall trees and chirping birds, the Story Walk is a fantastic opportunity for children to practice their reading skills in a new learning environment while taking in all the sights and sounds of the forest. The Story Walk experience is made possible through a partnership with the Kawartha Lakes Public Library, who provide a new story to be displayed at Ken Reid Conservation Area each month.
“This partnership with the Kawartha Lakes Public Library provides the perfect opportunity for children and their loved ones to spend quality time together in the great outdoors,” said Kristie Virgoe, Director of Stewardship and Conservation Lands. “We hope that the story walk continues to ignite a passion for learning and encourage children to be curious about the world around them.”
The Story Walk at Ken Reid Conservation Area is located along the Pond Loop Trail, right next to the main parking lot and off-leash dog park. Visitors can park at the main parking lot in Ken Reid Conservation Area for $4 per day, and are reminded to bring sunscreen, bug spray, and water when exploring our conservation areas this summer.
