'When Spring Comes' arrives along the Story Walk Trail at Ken Reid Conservation Area
APRIL 4, 2022 – As sunshine and warm weather return after a long, cold winter, visitors to Ken Reid Conservation Area can now read ‘When Spring Comes’, the newly featured story along the Story Walk trail, for the entire month of April.
Written by Kevin Henkes, ‘When Spring Comes’ is the perfect read for children and families excited about the return of spring, and with snow melting, flowers blooming, and birds chirping throughout the conservation area, there is no better time or place to read it.
“Spring can come quickly or slowly. It changes its mind a lot. But when Spring is finally here to stay, you will know it," reads a passage from the story.
The Story Walk at Ken Reid Conservation Area is made possible through a partnership between Kawartha Conservation and the Kawartha Lakes Public Library, which blends education and family time into a unique outdoor experience. Each month, the Kawartha Lakes Public Library provides a new story to be displayed along the Story Walk trail, helping to create a space where children can learn, play, and grow.
“The story walk is a major attraction for families and children in the area, and with continued support from the community and the Kawartha Lakes Public Library, it will continue to be a fun and valuable experience that anyone can enjoy,“ said Melissa Creasy-Alexander, Conservation Areas Technician.
“Spring is a fantastic time to visit Ken Reid Conservation Area. In addition to the story walk, the budding trees, fresh air, and warm sunshine make for the perfect first visit of the spring season.”
The Story Walk is located along the Pond Loop Trail, right next to the main parking lot. Visitors can park at Ken Reid Conservation Area for $4 per day. All visitors are reminded to wear clothing suitable for spring conditions, and if visiting with pets, please remember to clean up after them to help keep the trails an enjoyable experience for all.
