‘Where the Wild Things Are’ August’s Ken Reid Story Walk Trail experience
JULY 27, 2023 – This August, the Story Walk Trail at Ken Reid Conservation Area will feature the beloved children's classic "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. This interactive and family-friendly trail is set to captivate the imagination of visitors of all ages and foster a love for nature and reading.
The Story Walk Trail is a unique concept, in partnership with the Kawartha Lakes Public Library, that combines the joy of reading with the beauty of the great outdoors, creating an immersive literary experience like no other.
The journey along the Story Walk Trail will take participants through a series of storybook pages that follow the unforgettable tale of Max and his adventures with the wild things. As visitors walk through the trail, they will have the opportunity to read and engage with the heartwarming story, page by page, while surrounded by the stunning landscapes and natural wonders that Ken Reid Conservation Area is known for.
"Where the Wild Things Are" is a timeless classic that has captured the hearts of readers since its first publication in 1963. Maurice Sendak's beautifully illustrated tale of imagination and exploration has resonated with generations of children and adults, making it the perfect choice for our next Story Walk Trail.
"We are excited to bring the magic of 'Where the Wild Things Are' to life in our Story Walk Trail," said Kristie Virgoe, Director of Stewardship and Conservation Lands at Kawartha Conservation. "This initiative aims to encourage a love for both reading and nature among families and visitors, fostering a deeper connection with our environment and sparking the creativity that lies within all of us."
