‘Picture a Tree’ arrives along the Story Walk Trail for the month of April
APRIL 6, 2023 – Available now and for the entire month of April, visitors to Ken Reid Conservation Area can read ‘Picture a Tree’, the newly featured story along the Story Walk Trail, right next to the off-leash dog park.
Written by Barbara Reid, ‘Picture a Tree’ takes readers on a journey through the seasons, using the natural beauty of trees and the power of imagination to inspire exciting adventures. Budding fresh, new leaves as spring weather arrives, providing shade on hot days, and painting the earth with colour in the fall, all trees tell a story.
“There is more than one way to picture a tree,” reads a page from the story. “A tree can be a high-rise home sweet home, or a pirate ship, a bear cave, a clubhouse, a friend. Picture a tree. What do you see?”
The Story Walk at Ken Reid Conservation Area is made possible through a partnership with the Kawartha Lakes Public Library, who provide a new story to be featured along the trail each month. Surrounded by tall, magnificent trees and friendly, chirping chickadees, young readers can look forward to new pages and colourful illustrations around every corner.
“The Story Walk Trail is a fantastic place for children to make connections between the things that they are reading about and the world around them,” said Calli Burke, Conservation Lands Technician. “Seeing the trees blowing in the breeze, feeling the different textures of bark and leaves, and smelling the fresh forest air makes for a truly special learning experience.”
“With sunny skies and warm spring weather right around the corner, now is a fantastic time to gather friends and family to explore over 10kms of trails at Ken Reid Conservation Area,” Burke added.
The Story Walk is located along the Pond Loop Trail at Ken Reid Conservation Area, adjacent to the main parking lot and off-leash dog park. Visitors can park at Ken Reid Conservation Area for $4 per day and are reminded to wear footwear and clothing suitable for spring trail conditions.
